What are Partial Dentures?

Partial Dentures are plastic or metal removable plates with false teeth to replace any missing teeth. They have clasps attached to keep the denture in the right position in the mouth. These can sometimes be visible when you open your mouth. Your dentist will recommend that you take out your dentures over night to allow your mouth to rest. After brushing, your dentures will need to be placed in water to prevent cracking.

Types of Dentures Available:

Acrylic Partial Dentures are the cheapest type of partial denture with the false tooth or teeth designed to match the surrounding teeth and a gum shaded acrylic base. Small metal clips are also placed on the surrounding teeth to hold the denture in place in the mouth.

Cobalt Chrome Partial Dentures have the false tooth or teeth attached to the gum shaded acrylic plate. Despite their very slim metal frame due to the cobalt chrome, the framework is still extremely strong, preventing the dentures from breaking. Claps are also attached to keep the denture in the correct position in the mouth.

Valplast Flexible Partial Dentures have acrylic false teeth attached to the gum-shaded base. Together their flexible material from the Nylon family and strong base allows movement whilst maintaining its sturdiness.

Immediate Partial Dentures are constructed before the removal of a tooth or teeth. This allows the dentures to be placed into the mouth instantly. Immediate Dentures are usually a temporary restorative treatment whilst the extraction site/s are healing before proceeding with other restorative treatments.

You will have the chance to discuss which option is best suited to you with your dentist at your consultation.
