Invisalign - The Discreet Way To Straighten Teeth
Our Greenwich dentist looks at this revolutionary orthodontic system.
For many people, the fear of wearing dental braces outweighs their concerns over having crooked or uneven teeth. This is likely to be due to people’s memories of seeing others with a highly visible metal brace that showed each time they smiled.
Many modern brace systems now use finer tooth coloured materials which offer a much more appealing appearance, and some, including Invisalign orthodontics, actually use no wires at all. Below, we take a look at this particular system and how it works, along with some of its advantages.
Invisalign
At the Confidental Clinic in Greenwich, we are pleased to offer our SE London patients the option of Invisalign orthodontics. Unlike most other methods, this system uses no wires or brackets to straighten the teeth, but, instead, uses a series of transparent medical grade plastic trays that fit directly over the patient’s teeth. Once the first tray has been put in place, it slowly exerts gentle pressure on the teeth, guiding them back towards their desired position. After a short period of time, the tray will have completed its job and can be removed. The next tray is then fitted and continues the process. This is repeated until all of the trays have been used and your teeth are correctly aligned.
Advantages
There are a number of advantages to this system over other orthodontics. The most obvious to patients being that they are almost invisible and it is likely that no one will know you are wearing them unless you choose to tell them. In addition to this, the trays are easy to remove by the patient and are designed for doing so when eating meals or when cleaning your teeth. Not only does this mean that you can choose any food to eat without worrying about things visibly getting stuck in your braces, but also that the risk of trapped food particles is minimised, greatly reducing the risk of tooth decay.
You should, of course, ensure that the trays are cleaned as well as your teeth, and our Greenwich dentist will be able to advise you of the best way to perform this task.
It is worth noting that, although the trays are easily removed, this should be done only when eating or when cleaning your teeth. There may be rare occasions, such as an important interview, where you may wish to remove them for an hour or so if it makes you feel more confident, but these occasions should be kept to a minimum. Orthodontics work by constantly exerting pressure on the teeth. The longer the trays are removed, the longer the treatment period time will take.
