Dental Implants - Strong And Stable Replacement Teeth
Greenwich patients are turning to this increasingly popular alternative to dentures.
Any tooth loss is to be avoided wherever possible, but, especially if a visible front tooth is missing, this certainly detracts from a nice smile. Understandably, very few people would choose to leave the gap, opting instead to replace it by artificial means.
Traditionally, this would mean either having a partial denture or a dental bridge fitted. Increasingly though, more and more people are choosing dental implants which offer a strong, long lasting and extremely stable alternative.
What is a dental implant?
An actual implant is a small screw like object which is made from titanium. This is placed into the jawbone, following scans and x rays to determine the correct placement. It is then left in the jaw for around three months, during which time it fuses with the bone, creating, in effect, a very secure replacement tooth root. Once this process, known as osseointegration, is complete, a dental crown is attached to the top of the implant, completing a natural looking and very strong replacement tooth.
Is it painful?
As you would expect with any invasive procedure, there is a certain level of discomfort, but you should not experience this any more than you would with most other invasive dental procedures. At the Confidental Clinic in Greenwich, we help to make sure that you are relaxed and that the powerful local anaesthetic has done its work before we commence any procedure. All of the equipment and procedures we use are designed so that your treatment is completed with minimum discomfort.
Are they expensive?
It is fair to say that having a dental implant is not the cheapest tooth replacement option available. That said though, implants offer a level of security and convenience that neither a denture or bridge can provide. Once the implant is in place, and with good oral health care, you should have a trouble free tooth that is as strong, or even stronger, than your natural teeth and should last for a minimum of twenty years, possibly even longer.
In addition to these benefits, we offer a number of finance plans at our Greenwich dentists which help you to spread the cost of your dental treatments.
What if I have several missing teeth?
Dental implants can be placed individually or to replace a number of consecutive missing teeth, using them to secure a bridge in place. Full arches of missing teeth can also be restored by using four or six dental implants to hold a fixed bridge in place.
