Essential Oral Health Care

The role of NHS dentists at our Greenwich practice.

The National Health Service (NHS) was formed in 1948 to ensure that everybody had access to essential health care, including dentistry. This has, over the years, ensured that no one has needed to suffer with poor oral health simply because they could not afford it.

At the Confidental Clinic in Greenwich, we are proud to be able to continue this tradition and offer patients from SE London the opportunity to have healthy teeth and gums irrespective of their financial situation.

What does NHS treatment offer?

NHS dentistry offers a wide range of dental treatments which are designed to both prevent dental problems and also treat them accordingly where they do occur. Whilst, in its formative years, these treatments probably consisted largely of fillings and extractions, the list is now much longer, with many different restorative treatments available. Whilst amalgam dental fillings and extractions are still available on the NHS, so are many others. These include the following, which is not an exhaustive list by any means.

● X-rays

● Scale and polish where urgent treatment is needed (please note this does not include preventative scale and polishes. You need to see our hygienist for these.)

● Root canal treatment

● Dental crowns

● Dentures

● Bridgework

Through these procedures, and regular dental visits to our Greenwich dental practice, patients should be able to maintain healthy gums and teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry

It is worth mentioning here, that cosmetic dental treatments are not available on the NHS, with a few rare exceptions. All cosmetic dental procedures must be paid for privately, and, to help our SE London patients with these payments, we offer a number of dental finance plans to suit all pockets.

Treatments typically NOT available on the NHS include:

● Teeth whitening

● Dental veneers

● Dental implants

● Cosmetic orthodontics such as Invisalign

● Facial treatments for skin rejuvenation

We are always happy to discuss patient options at the Confidental Clinic in Greenwich and we will offer impartial advice as to whether you would benefit most from NHS dental care or private care.
